PEFC is the leading institution for promoting and ensuring sustainable forest management. PEFC originates from the structure of European small forest owners, can now look back on more than 20 years of existence and is represented in 55 countries worldwide. 330 million hectares of the world’s forests are managed in accordance with the PEFC forest standard.

In Austria, half of the national territory, around 4 million hectares, is covered with forest. Of this, more than ¾ of the domestic forests are already actively and sustainably managed in accordance with the PEFC standards.
